It’s been a few days since July started and so it’s time again for my Required Reading list for the month. But before that, let me do a quick recap of how I fared with my reading for the last two months. My last post about my Required Reading list was for May, and the ambitious one that I was, I thought I could finish a book during my wedding month. How stupid of me! Haha!

I wasn’t able to post my reading list for the month of June for the reason that my blog was down (again!) for several weeks, and when it went back up again in June 18, I already lost my drive to post my list. It doesn’t mean though that I wasn’t able to read any book last month because I was able to finish two: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers and Paper Towns by John Green. So, given that, I believe I still had a productive reading month.

Now, on to this month’s Required Reading list.

I didn’t exactly have a particular theme for the books I’ve chosen to read for July. However, I have already started reading two of the books in the list several months back but for some reason, put them on hold. Considering that July is the first month of the second half of the year,  wouldn’t it be nice to start the second half of the year with finishing some unfinished business?

Here are the books in my Required Reading list for July:

  • The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. I was intrigued by this book considering that it is a story about a Biblical character, Dinah, and how she lived her life as a woman in a strictly patriarchal Jewish community.
  • Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness is the last installment in the Chaos Walking Trilogy. I sure hope my heart is ready this time, considering how many times in the past that I have attempted to finish this book.
  • Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler is a Pulitzer winner and my first Anne Tyler book. I have already read the first chapter several months ago and so far I am loving the humor.

I have added one book to my usual fare of two books because I believe that I can read more books now that the wedding is over.  Aside from these three books in my reading list, I am currently on the second book of A Song of Ice and Fire (A Clash of Kings) by George R.R. Martin. I guess I have a lot on my plate right now, reading-wise, but I am not complaining. A dork like me doesn’t complain about the number of books she has to read. All I ask is a little more time to accommodate my reading.
