The Bloggy Birthday (First) Giveaway

Three more days until this blog’s second anniversary! YAY! 🙂

This blog first became public on November 16, 2010, as shown by my very first post. Two years of book blogging has made me grow both as a reader and as a blogger, and through this blog, I was also able to meet fellow bloggers with whom I have forged wonderful friendships through time! Plus, these friends (and their blogs) have influenced my reading choices as well. Yay! 🙂

Last year, during the bloggy’s first anniversary, I celebrated with a new blog banner and a personal resolve to blog more thoughtfully and expand my reading preferences. One of my resolutions was to read more local books, but it was only during the middle of this year that I began to seriously work on this resolve by putting up the Pinoy Reads feature on the blog. The books I have read so far along this line are only just a handful but I am determined to trod on one book at a time. 🙂

SO. In connection with all of the above, and most especially in celebration of the second year of this humble blog, I am having a blog giveaway! You think it’s cool? I hope so. 😉

But first, the mechanics:

  • This giveaway is actually for the people whom I have met through the course of my blogging experience. It is my way of saying THANK YOU to your patronage tolerance of my writings, haha! Which is why only those with whom I have interacted with either personally, or on the web, or both, will be qualified to join the raffle.
  • So, in the comments box below, please state the circumstances of how we met (i.e. personally, online, etc.). Answer this question: What local/Filipino book will you recommend to me and why?
  • Only comments which responded to the requirements in No. 1 and entered within today, November 13, to November 16, 2012, will be included in the raffle.
  • The giveaway is open to Philippine residents only. As you can see, this is my first giveaway so let’s start small, shall we? 😉
  • One winner will be picked through on November 17, 2012, Saturday. The first name generated by the List Randomizer will be considered as the winner. Announcement will be made on this blog, of course. 😀

And now, the prize. The winner will receive one (1) National Bookstore Gift Certificate worth P500.  Please understand that the only bookstores that I know of in my place are National Bookstore, Philippine Christian Bookstore, Precious Pages, and Booksale. Among these four, it is my belief that the winner might have more use of the GC from NBS, although I will still consider if the winner wants another bookstore as mentioned above. Do feel free to tell me. I will be sending the GC via courier as soon as I can after the winner is drawn.

I know that this prize isn’t actually grand or extravagant. But as I’ve already said, this giveaway is my simple way of saying thank you to friends who visit this blog and continue to read my somewhat sometimes senseless posts, and taking the time to comment. 🙂

Again, my heartfelt thank you! And good luck! 🙂

  1. Happy 2nd Bloggy Birthday, It’s A Wonderful Bookworld! 🙂

Since I am VERY qualified to join (hee!), this is my recommendation: Wandergirl by Tweet Sering. I loved its brutal honesty, its articulateness, and its hilarity. I gave it 4 stars! Here’s what I have to say about it: clicky!

  2. First things first, Happy second birthday to your blog, Lynai! 🙂

I don’t if you’ve already added this, but I highly recommend Bebang Siy’s It’s A Mens World. It’s a hilarious and sometimes gut-wrenching account of the author’s growing up years. Not convinced enough? Then me let take a page from Monique’s by linking my thoughts about it the

Here’s to more years of blogging, Lynai!

  3. Yay! I’m qualified as well! Happy blogversary 🙂 I met Lynai through GR (of course), then in person last October. woot!

If you haven’t read ABNKKBSNPLAko? by Bob Ong, I recommend it. My top fave among his books. 🙂

  4. Ooooh giveaway! Happy anniversary!

How we met: TFG! 🙂 We met in person last April 2010. Online though, I cannot remember! 😀 Hihi.

Recommendation: ALTERNATIVE ALAMAT edited by Paolo Chikiamco. It’s a collection of short stories based on local myths and legends, and it’s one of my favorite reads last year. 🙂 If you want to read more of local fantasy, this is a good place to start!

    Happy anniversary again! 😀

  5. Yehey! Happy bloggy Birthday, It’s a Wonderful Bookworld!

Of course, I met Lynai in Goodreads then learned more about each other in TFG, Twitter, Facebook, and dun-dun-dun! WE ALREADY MET! Pics or it didn’t happen? Hah! See our picture on my facebook! (Saya ko lang)

Anyway, I’m not a wide reader of Pinoy books but I recommend Bebang Sy’s It’s a Mens World because it’s a light, funny, and easy to read. And it won the 1st Reader’s Choice Award!!!!

    Happy birthday again 🙂

  6. The author says Im qualified. 🙂 Congratulations and happy bloggy anniversary!

I first met Atty. Lynai through goodreads when we do the buddy reading on Wuthering Heights. 🙂

Since Im a fan of Mina Esguerra, I recommend My Imaginary Ex if you haven’t read it yet or Fairytale Fail (though I think Maria would disagree with me haha!)

  7. I suck at raffles, but I’m going to join anyway just to show my love for you (nux!).

We met during the April meetup last 2011. We are batchmates! I don’t remember though if we had a one on one conversation (we were seats apart), but it was fun meeting you and your then boyfriend. Thanks for the biscocho!

I’d recommend Jessica Zafra’s Manananggal Terrorizes Manila. It’s a short story collection, and it was written during the peak of her writing prowess. It has nothing to do with external horror, only of the internal horrors that we are prone to. If ever you pick it up, my favorite stories there are Doppelganger, and Scylla and Charybdis.

    Happy Bloggy Birthday!

  8. Happy Second Anniversary!…Congratz!…More power!…Keep up the good-Blogging!…
