It’s senior year and it’s now or never. Callie Rivera always wanted to be part of her school’s drama club, and she finally musters the courage to audition for Shakespeare’s classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Only she got the audition dates wrong and landed a role that only existed in her wildest dreams. And her co-actor? None other than Landon Arcival, theater actor extraordinaire, not to mention Callie’s (former) crush— or so she says.

Callie is living the dream, until she wakes up to a nightmare. According to the rumor mill, she is sleeping with different guys in her school. Of course, it isn’t true, but who would believe her? And the worst part? It may or may not be her fault the rumors spread in the first place.

What to do? Callie finds herself in the middle of a hot mess. But then Landon proposes the perfect plan that can fix everything, but only if they don’t fall for each other first.

Rumor Has It reminds me of the beauty and charm of young love. It easily brings back high school memories, although I must say that my own high school is a bit different from that of Callie’s St. Jean de Brebeuf High School. Still, her experiences as a senior high school student are familiar and relevant. Self-image and peer pressure are issues that almost every teen has to go through which is why being the object of rumors play such a huge part on a young man or woman’s life and this is also what Callie had to battle with as she spends her last year of high school.

I love the dynamics of the friendship between Callie and Beatrice. I love their closeness and as how friendships often go, they drifted apart but were able to eventually patch things up. Callie may not exactly be the perfect main character but it is her flaws and her mistakes that makes her easily likeable. Landon is a charm and if I were a little bit younger, I also might have a crush on him. (Instead, all I felt for him was motherly love. Such a young, lovable boy, haha.)

Rumor Has It is made for easy reading and for a time, it made me wish I was in high school again.
