Wednesday Diaries: on short stories, book squees, and book finds

It's been a while since I did a Wednesday Diaries post. I was actually trying to remember what inspired me to come up with a meme like this and looking through my previous WD posts, I saw that my very first post was about my great heartbreak. I wanted to have an outlet for all my rants and my grief, and what better way to unload than in this blog which talks about books? Anyway, I am reviving Wednesday Diaries because I feel that since I cannot make any dent on my blogging backlog any time soon, I might as well share snippets of what I want to say about the book/s that I have recently finishe...

Wednesday Diaries: Harry Potter, old books & new, and a wishlist

Hohoho! Because we, Filipinos, are more excited about Christmas than the rest of the world (we start celebrating in September, haha) ~ MERRY CHRISTMAS! :) I've recently finished rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone(the book club will be having a Harry Potter Christmas) and I enjoyed it, although I was not as impressed as I had been the first time I read it which was like, five years ago.  Still, the spells are a delight to read (I am tempted to use the limb-lock spell for the stray cat who kept trying to get inside the house) and I was always fascinated by Quidditch. Wednesday Diaries and a book buy

Hi friends! I was planning on skipping this week's notes/diaries (because I don't want to post the same feature as last week) but I have a little time to kill, and I feel talkative at this hour of the night, so please bear with me. (Didn't I say that this feature is actually just an excuse for me keep on talking? :P) Between last Wednesday and today, I made some progress on A Bottle of Storm Clouds, where I have just finished The Just World of Helena Jimenez. This one's my most favorite as of now (I still have 3 more stories to go) because it talks about justice and law and punishment, and we...

BOOK BUYS (and a book gift!)

***** Here's my latest bookish loot: The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers is a modern classic story and I have been seeing raving reviews on this book. Bought at Booksale for P5.00! Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson. Ticked off one book from my wishlist tonight. And I am just so delighted to have found this beautiful copy for only P20.00! A total amount of P25.00 for my book purchases for the past two months! Isn't that just the greatest? :) P.S. I  also got this book from Ms. Ronnie when I visited Manila and met up with the book club last October: [caption id="attachme...

BOOK BUYS (11)

Since it's my birth month, I indulged myself to a little book shopping yesterday at Booksale. I practiced some restraint still because I stuck to my budget which is not more than P100 for each book. Although it wasn't really a big haul -- I only bought 2 books -- but I was very  happy with the turn-out of my hunt: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. I am trying to imitate my wonderful bookish friend, Angus, in completing M.Robinson's books. I already have a hardback copy of Home, but Angus says I must first read Gilead first before I read Home. So when I saw a copy of this book yesterday, and s...
