MONSTRESS | Lysley Tenorio

Monstress: Stories is the book club's book of the month for October. I love reading short stories and I've been looking forward to reading this compilation by a Filipino author during my birthday month. All of the eight stories in this anthology are excellent reads and I have a couple of favorites. This is one book that makes me feel proud as a Filipino because the writing is eloquent and the stories - they just strike close to home. I loved how the author writes his stories. The narrative was fluid and the author writes very simply, not making any effort to impress. Granted, I was not instan...

MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME: TWELVE HOLIDAY STORIES | edited by Stephanie Perkins

This is my second time to read a holiday-themed book for Christmas (the first was A Christmas Carol  by Charles Dickens which I read a few years back before I started book-blogging), and I must say that I really enjoyed the experience. Reading My True Love Gave To Me in the days leading to Christmas was a perfect introduction to the holiday season because of all the feels. I really liked most of the stories in this collection, and it is an eclectic collection at that. There's a mix of fantasy and contemporary, and even though I am not huge on fantasy, the magic felt perfect and very Christmas...

Summary from Goodreads: Since no self-respecting girl should let any setback stop her from following her heart, Hilda sets off on a journey that takes her through days of pining for the perfect job, over rough series of heartbreak and disappointment (not to mention bad sex), and even into foreign territory: passionate Frenchmen, adventurous half-Maoris, witty Brits. Armed only with an honest map to her own heart, it's a journey that eventually leads her to her true calling, her true self, and true love. A friend Kindle gifted me a copy of this book for my birthday and since I had lately be...

Jack is the go-to behind-the-scenes guy for electronica group, Box Trap, and finds himself inexplicably drawn to the lead singer he's tasked to work with. (SPECTATORS, Chinggay Labrador) Georgia wants to finally talk to Ken abo...

THE DISREPUTABLE HISTORY OF FRANKIE LANDAU-BANKS | E. Lockhart

I had fun reading The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks. It was one of those books that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning, not wanting to stop until I’m done reading. And to think that this was not entirely a mystery story. Although I was not completely wowed at the end, I kept thinking over some things in the book after I turned the last page – details of which I will share in a little while. The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks is the story of Frances “Frankie” Landau-Banks (of course) who is the “Bunny Rabbit” of everyone in the family. That is, until aft...
